  • Year 10 at CATCH

    10th November 2016 - John Whitgift Academy

    Year 10 students recently visited the CATCH training facility at Immingham as part of their Engineering pathway. The visit entailed hands on experience of a engineering workshop and a introduction to plant process operations.

  • Battlefield Tour

    10th November 2016 - John Whitgift Academy

    Two students took a once in a lifetime trip to Belgium and France.

    Alex Lowe and Victoria Swinburn went to Europe to visit WW1 battlefields and cemeteries as part of a trip to mark the 100th anniversary of the Great War.

    The Year 10 students were chosen to go on the trip after writing an explanation of why they should go on the experience.

    From November the 4th to November the 7th the two students and one teacher went via the Eurotunnel to learn all about WW1.

    The journey to Higher Education

    Students from all over the region discovered what options are available after finishing school at a conference called FORCE.

    FORCE, sponsored by the University of Hull, stands for the Federation of Regional Colleges for Engagement.

    The scheme supports colleges and universities to get students thinking about what they want to do in the future, including advice on following the correct career path for them.

  • Governors' Tea Party

    10th November 2016 - John Whitgift Academy
    Students, parents and staff enjoyed the first Governors' Tea Party. Those students who were invited had achieved outstanding attendance and reports; achieving an A1 from each of their teachers, showing that they are 'model' students who are keen to learn and always strive for excellence in their work with a positive and proactive attitude.
     
    A Governors' Tea Party will be held at the beginning of every half term to celebrate and reward our outstanding students.
  • AUTISM AWARENESS ASSEMBLIES

    9th November 2016 - Ash Hill Academy

    Assemblies were given to Years 7, 8, and 9 this morning about Autism Awareness from the specialist ASD Teacher Ms Robson from DMBC. After a brief video presentation explaining ‘Top Tips for Coping with ASD’ and ‘Key Aspects of ASD’, Ms Robson then explained what Autism Spectrum Disorder is, and how students might come across those affected by it.

  • Football 8/11/16

    9th November 2016 - The Elland Academy
    It really does prove how hardy Elland students are, the temperature was hovering above freezing when the two teams took to the pitch. The numbers have certainly grown since our last match report and it was great to see two new admissions joining in the game this week.
    The teams and captains were quickly chosen, the ball was in play and within minutes Kayven had scored-a real power shot that took the goalie by surprise.

    It was with a heavy heart that our students joined together on 4th November. Many of our students had been touched by the tragic passing of an ex student and a Year 11 student stepped forward and requested that the Elland team join together to raise funds to be donated towards the funeral costs for Sophie.

    It was touching to see so many of our staff and students support the bake sale and cake auction. It was a true testament to The Elland Academy spirit that students who did not know Sophie spent time bakin

    A big congratulations  goes to the Year 8 netball team. They put in an impressive performance last night and beat Benton Park 11:1.
    Voted player of the match went to Romilly.

    To mark Rememberance Day, any students who wish to attend school in their cadet uniform on Friday, 11th November are welcome to do so. The academy will hold a 2 minutes silence at 11.11AM on this day to remember the members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty.

    8th November 2016 - Melior Community Academy

    To support this year's Children In Need, the Academy will be holding a non uniform day on Friday, 18th November 2016. There will be a voluntary contribution of £1 which will be donated to the charity.

  • Swap Shop shop keepers appointed!

    7th November 2016 - The Parks Academy

    Two members of the Academy Council interviewed and appointed four super Swap Shop shop keepers today! They asked lots of very tricky questions about attendance, honesty and whether they are patient with pupils who cannot decide! The Swap Shop will be open every lunchtime for pupils to spend their credits.

    Thaks too to our parent EAB members who assisted.

    We also appointed four Y6 cleaning station operatives. They are hard working and can get on without any fuss! They will ealso earn 30 credits per week!

  • Y3/4 pantomime

    We are delighted to confirm that Y3 and Y4 (All three classes) will be going to the amazing Fruit Space theatre again this year to see Dick Whittington. It's a proper close up, amateur dramatics production and again, we are their exclusive audience! Remember last year? What an experience!

  • NSPCC Assembly "Speak out. Stay safe!"

    Last week Craven was visited by the NSPCC who came to tell us all about their  “Speak out Stay safe” programme.

    Their programme will ensure all children aged 5-11 learn this essential safeguarding information in a lively, interactive and memorable way.

    With the help of their mascot Buddy, the programme provides child-friendly, interactive assemblies and workshops to help children.
