  • Anti-bullying week

    17th November 2017 - The Parks Academy

This week has been anti-bullying week. We have been thinking about what a bully looks like (could be anybody) and the types of bullying which can happen. However, we have also thought about the opposite. We have been thinking about kindness and love. Friendship and care. We have thought about how we are all different and all equal.

    We all fit togther.

  • KS4 Self-Reliant Journey

    17th November 2017 - The Grove Academy

Students attending our KS4 Outdoor Education Course have just completed their first self-reliant journey. They spent part of last term learning navigation skills and working without the direct supervision of adults in order to gain the skills needed for the challenge.

They had to proceed independently on foot and by public transport to Fox Wood near Brimham Rocks whilst carrying all their equipment for a night under the stars, the main challenge being that this took place in darkness, thus increasing the nav

  • KS4 felting UPDATE!!! 14.11.17

    17th November 2017 - The Grove Academy

The three pupils thoroughly enjoyed exploring the ruins, sketching and photographing views that would give them inspiration for their prints.  They were also intrigued by a photo shoot with models posing infront of the cellarium.  We guessed something like Nike.

They each produced varied felts, from gothic, to impressionism, to expressionism.  Amazing.  The work will go towards their GCSE, Art portfolio.

A big thank you to our Mr Trower, Emma and her team at Fountains Abbey.

We are very proud of the whole school for their behaviour throughout the service and for their great creative contributions to our giant poppy wall.

We all took part in the ‘Wear Odd Socks’ campaign for Anti-Bullying Week! We had lots of fun showing off our odd socks and the grown-ups joined in too! We talked about the importance of ‘it’s okay to be different’ and what to do if somebody makes you feel upset.

In Reception we talked about differences and similarities in ourselves. We thought about how we could be kind to others to make them feel special and happy. We also talked about what to do if somebody was unkind to us; ignore them, walk away and tell

  • KS3 Felt Workshop at Fountains Abbey 2017

    15th November 2017 - The Grove Academy

On a misty morning in mid-October, Ellie, the Ethan’s and Harrison met Emma for a serious art work out.

Having studied the impressionist artist Monet, the pupils were armed with their chalk pastel drawings in the smudgy style of the great master.  It was to be his waterlilies that were going to be transported into felts.

Rapidly, the four pupils were fully engaged, layering, colour blending and finally the challenging, exhausting process of the irreversible change!  A thousand rolls to make the felt.  It was
