    Melior Community Academy has been lucky enough to secure a visit on 4th November from Rob Vickerman, a Sky Sports Living Ambassador. Rob will be working with various groups of students during his visit. A full report will be available following his visit.

  • Jodrell Bank Visit

    24th October 2016 - Melior Community Academy

    The GCSE astronomy group recently visited Jodrell Bank which is the home of the famous Lovell telescope. They explored the various interactive displays which were fantastic and very educational. They were also able to explore the beautiful gardens due to the weather being a lovely sunny day.

  • Battlefields History Trip

    24th October 2016 - Melior Community Academy

    Miss Higgins selected Charlie Broadbent and Kieran Goulding from Year 11 to take part in a First World War battlefields tour, as a reward for their enthusiasm in history lessons. The tour was fully funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and provided a variety of perspectives and insights into the history of the Western Front. They were led by an expert from the Guild of Battlefield Guides, also a serving solider accompanied the trip to provide a contrast to serving as a solider 100 years ago.

  • Animation at Bradford Media Museum

    21st October 2016 - The Elland Academy

    On Thursday 20th October KS3 students visited Bradford Media Museum. The students were able to learn about different types of animation, make their own clay models and then work in groups to create their own animation using computers and webcams. Students also visited the I-Max to watch 3D Space and visited the arcade area to play retro games.

    The weather may not have been the best but that didn't stop the football enrichment session on Tuesday 18th October. We may have been small in numbers but what we lacked in numbers we more than made up for in energy and dare I say skill! The session provided students with an opportunity to work together with different people (including staff).

    It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to inform you of the promotion of Mr Schofield.

    After half term Ryan has been seconded to take up the role of Vice Principal at Pheasant Bank Primary Academy in Rossington.

    Ryan has been associated with the school since 1997. Firstly as a secondary and sixth form student where he went on to become Deputy Head Boy and School football captain.   • Y11 PRAISE ASSEMBLY

    20th October 2016 - Ash Hill Academy

    Our Year 11 students had their first ever Praise Assembly this morning, to recognise all their hard work and effort during this first half term. On entry to the assembly students were offered a choice of snacks, from bacon sandwiches to pizza slices, as well as juice drinks. Mrs Callaghan (Vice Principal) addressed the assembly, informing them of the reasons why they were going to be praised, before handing over to staff to present the various awards.

  • Fire Safety Talk

    20th October 2016 - The Grove Academy

    On Friday 30th September, Fire Safety Officer Craig Haswell from the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service led a special assembly for the whole school on the dangers of fire. He focussed on risky behaviour, but also discussed fire accidents in the home. His presentation was hard hitting and students left with a better understanding of the dangers of fire setting and the consequences when things go wrong.

  • Year 6 Codebreaker event

    19th October 2016 - Worlaby Academy

    On Wednesday 19th July, 4 of the Year 6 pupils were accompanied by Mr Brown and Mrs Hatton to take part in a problem solving event at the Army Barracks in Scunthorpe.

    The room had been set out in the style of Bletchley Park and the code breaking was to make the children think about Enigma and to use their skills they had been taught to break codes and solve problems.

    The team worked exceptionally well together and everyone played a vital part. We came third overall and were very proud of our achievements. It

  • Praise for Elland Academy Pupils

    19th October 2016 - The Elland Academy

    The 2 boys: Ryan and Lewis found a male unconscious and with an occluded airway in the bushes on their way home after hearing a phone ringing.

    They students rang for The Ambulance Service to assist the man, they remained on scene and guided them to the patient, they offered to help but remained far enough away so as not to get in their way, helping them to move equipment around and returning it to the ambulance.

    All this made them quite late getting home, luckily Gary White from the Ambulance Service was able

  • A Day in the life of the NHS" trip

    19th October 2016 - Hull Trinity House Academy

    Some of our Year9 and Year 8 took part in "A Day in the life of the NHS" trip. They went behind the scenes at Hull Royal Infirmary as part of a large-scale NHS careers event.

    More than 70 students from Withernsea High, Trinity House School and St Mary’s Academy walked through six individual scenarios designed to showcase NHS job roles which support people from birth through to end of life.
