    Buddy Panda (from The Education Network in Leeds) came to visit us on Friday 25th November to hand out certificates to children in each class who came up with the best pieces of work all linked to Anti-bullying week. During Anti-bullying week (14th-18th November) children discussed the different types of bullying, how to identify it and what to do if they feel they may be bullied.   • Fitting farewell

    25th November 2016 - The Vale Academy

    Talented students paid a fond farewell to familiar surroundings in two special concerts at The Vale Academy.

    The concerts, organised by three Year 13 students as part of their Level 3 BTec course, took place in Westmoor Hall.

    Almost 60 years old, it will be demolished with the rest of the existing school in the New Year after the move to its new building after Christmas.

    The Farewell Concerts took place over two nights and featured the academy’s many musicians.

    Last night saw a fantastic evening of celebration for students who have been working on the Positive Activities programme with staff from the Base, St Ledger Homes and Stronger Families.

    During the programme the students self made and directed a film which was then projected on to the wall of the academy showcasing their work and achievements.

    24th November 2016 - Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

    Well done to Obie who sent out his own letter to parents asking for advent calender donations. He wanted to make sure children who normally don't get anything for Christmas got a least one gift this year. We are pleased to report that parental support for this project was overwhelming with 70 calenders being donated. Thank you all once again for your continued support.

    Record Breaking Attendance to Maths enrichment.

    I would just like to send out a massive CONGATULATIONS to all the Year 11 students that attended the enrichment session on Monday night.

    A staggering 92% of the year group attended, they were engaged and worked on vital topics in readiness for their mock exams.

    Domino’s pizza was enjoyed by all and they managed to demolish 25 large pizzas in minutes.

  • Year 9 Rugby League at Huddersfield Giants

    23rd November 2016 - Manor Croft Academy

    The Year 9 rugby team took part in a rugby league session with the Huddersfield Giants.

    Steve Hardisty who is the Huddersfield Giants Education Manager took our students on a session opposite the scholarship students.  The students worked through a number of skills based drills.  Steve went on to say to Mr Audsley that 'You have a very talented and respectful group of young men', and he has invited the students down for another session.

  • Weelsby Woods Adventure

    22nd November 2016 - Willows Academy

    On Tuesday 22nd November, the whole of Willows Academy adventured to Weelsby Woods. With crisp, sunny weather and the ground covered in leaves, it was a beautiful afternoon for all. All classes separated to complete different woodland related tasks, from leaf collection and den building, to the measurement of trees. The shared experience was enjoyed by every member of the school.

    Santa took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to pay a visit to the children in Foundation Stage and KS1. Children have been asked to write Santa a letter, which is to be returned to school, and one lucky child will win a luxury item from their Christmas List!

  • KS3 Night in the Woods

    22nd November 2016 - The Grove Academy

    As the first  challenge in The Grove Academy’s new Personal Development Programme, the KS3 students were challenged to spend a night in the woods, sleeping in self–built shelters.

    Designed to improve the students’ personal resilience and self-confidence, the challenge involved:  route planning; use of public transport; map reading;  teamwork; leadership; shelter building and campfire cooking. As much as possible, the  students were given control and independence with the activities and the decision making.


  • Classroom In The Woods

    21st November 2016 - Willows Academy

    As part of our topic on Invaders, KS2 went to the Classroom in the Woods. Miss Green’s and Miss Davenport’s class’ focus was Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We participated in a variety of activities including:

    • Building boats from wood and string, which we floated down the river.
    • Foraged for our own food-finding sloes, blackberries and raspberries.
    • Building shelters from logs and branches we found in the forest
    • Plucked, cooked and ate pigeon that had been shot earlier in the day.

    Mr Audsley, Assistant Principal has been delivering assemblies to all year groups on road safety.  A large number of students in our Academy walk or cycle to school so it is extremely important that students know how to keep themselves safe on and around our roads.

    The Parks held a super spotty day on Friday for Children in Need. We raised an amazing £139.

    This brings our total for this year up to £269 already!

    Our next event will be Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 9th December. Proceeds will be donated to Save The Children.
