  • De Warenne Dominate Badminton Competition

    3rd December 2012 - De Warenne Academy

    The academy entered two teams in an under 15 boys’ competition which was held at Rossington All Saints Academy. Both our A team (Adam Davies, Luke Hardy, Reagan Winder and Liam Shearan) and our B team (Aidan Bedford, Devon Robb, Asa Blake and Tyler Hardy) swept through the qualifying stages in November but the final was nerve-racking for both sides as the quality of opponents was very high and due to an injury to Liam the A team were one player down.   • The Mansion House Xmas Fayre

    1st December 2012 - Rowena Academy

    All the children produced Christmas gifts, including tree decorations, gift tags and reindeer food to sell at the Mansion House Xmas Fayre to support the charities of the Civic Mayor. Well done to all the children. You should be very proud of yourselves.

  • Indoor Athletics

    29th November 2012 - De Warenne Academy

    "On Thursday 29th November a number of selected students from Years 8 and 10 went to compete in the Doncaster Schools Indoor Athletics competition held at the EIS in Sheffield. Highlights from the day include Emily Jones 3rd overall in the long jump, Tiegan Handsley 3rd in the triple jump, Laura Cope 2nd in her 60m final, Tyler Hardy 2nd in his 60m final and Keanan Rolph 2nd in the 60m final. De Warenne were amongst ten schools that attended and were up against some tough competition but conducted themselve

  • The Sky Sports Project Comes to TSLA

    23rd November 2012 - The South Leeds Academy

    On Monday the 19th of November two sports stars visited the academy to work with some of our students as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport Project. Paul Broadbent, who captained Sheffield Eagles to a challenge cup triumph and represented Great Britain rugby league and Rachel Mackenzie former World Thai-Boxing champion, came into school to pass on their expertise and knowledge.

  • Our local hero visits Hatfield Woodhouse

    23rd November 2012 - Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

    What an exciting day it has been at Hatfield Woodhouse Primary.  A big thankyou to our children for displaying exemplary behaviour. The staff and children have enjoyed meeting with Ben Parkinson. The children enjoyed watching Ben's recent 'Skydive' DVD. The children at Hatfieldwoodhouse also spoke about why they had chosen to raise funds for his charity and also about what an inspiration he is to us all.

  • Terror in Sheffield

    21st November 2012 - De Warenne Academy

    Year 11 students were left shaking with fear after a recent visit to the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield to see a spine-tingling production of Susan Hill's novel, "The Woman in Black". The students have studied this text for their GCSE English Literature examination in January and seeing it live on stage certainly helped to portray the writer's expertise in chilling the blood of her readers. Thankfully, all escaped unscathed at the end of the afternoon and most commented that they much preferred this production

  • The Skills Show Big Conversation

    20th November 2012 - The South Leeds Academy

    27 Year 9 students were chosen to attend The Skills Show Big Conversation, at The NEC in Birmingham, organised by Business in the Community. The students had chance to have a one-to-one conversation with some of the busiest and most powerful people in the UK. The conversation was on the jobs of the future, apprenticeships and how to get the most out of work experience.

    3 lucky students were chosen to sit at HRH Princess Anne's table and have the "Conversation" with her.

  • Real Life Superhero

    20th November 2012 - Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

    As part of our last terms topic Year 2 have managed to organise a visit by their real life Superhero 'Ben Parkinson' to Hatfield Woodhouse. The children on hearing about the fundraising events that Ben particpates in, they decided to support him by raising money for his chosen charity.  The whole school joined together in raising funds to support the 'Pilgrim Bandits charity'. A charity that Ben supports.

  • KS4 Art Exhibition

    19th November 2012 - The South Leeds Academy

    On Friday 9th November 2012, the Key Stage 4 Engage group exhibited some of their BTEC Art work at the Derek Fatchett Centre in Woodhouse.

    The group displayed work on still life, art deco and pop art and the use of several different materials and techniques.

    Many of the group have both shown a natural flair in this subject with some now aspiring to progress to Leeds Art College. This was the first of three art exhibitions the group will show by the end of the year.


  • Lord Woolmer Visits Students at TSLA

    18th November 2012 - The South Leeds Academy

    Lord Woolmer chose The South Leeds Academy 6th Form to visit on Friday 16th November 2012. He wanted to meet the future young voters and talk to them about his role in The House of Lords. He gave students an interesting insight into the history of The House of Lords and a working day there.

  • Thank You to South Leeds and Hunslet Cars

    11th November 2012 - The South Leeds Academy

    Not only do South Leeds and Hunslet Cars answer the telephone if you need to be somewhere, but they also answer the telephone if you need any help at The South Leeds Academy!

    Twice this term they have willingly supported our requests for help. Firstly, we needed some work boots for 10 students working on courses off site, they provided boots for all the students, secondly, we asked for donations for raffle prices for the Christmas Party that we are having for the elderly at The Academy, and again we receive

  • Remembrance Service

    9th November 2012 - De Warenne Academy

    On the Friday prior to Remembrance Sunday the Vicar of Denaby led a service at the war memorial for school children from the area to pay their respects and remember the fallen.

    De Warenne Academy was represented at the service by House Leaders Aimee Martin (Beech), Payten Oxby (Oak), Declan Earp (Willow) and Deputy House Leader Brad Lawrence (Holly). Also Lance Corporal Terry Ashton, Cadet Nathan Martin and Cadet Callum Pilling who are members of the Royal Dragoon Army Cadet Force in Mexborough.

  • Parents Recommend The Vale Academy

    5th November 2012 - The Vale Academy

    Following a questionnaire conducted at Year 7 settling-in evening, 100% of parents would recommend the academy to prospective parents.  Of the 737 questions asked, there were only 7 responses that cited disagreement with academy policy - less than 1%.

    Analysis of the Year 8 questionnaires showed that 100% of responses received suggested that the academy would be recommended to prospective parents.  Of the 770 questions, there were 10 responses which disagreed with policy.  Again, this is less than 1%.

  • New Library Opening

    24th October 2012 - Park View Primary Academy

    The week started with a whole school assembly on Monday.

    On Tuesday, Kirsty Fenn from the School Library Service visited to introduce the children to the library and teach them about library skills.  All the children were given a new book bag so they can take care of all the new books.

    Wednesday 24th October saw the children's author Penny Dolan visit to do workshops on reading and writing with every class.  What an enjoyable time all our children had!

  • Year 6 Residential - Hollowford

    20th October 2012 - Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

    Year 6 have just returned from their residential in Castleton at the Hollowford Centre.

    The children spent three days at the outdoor activity centre, participating in a range of activities designed to build individual confidence and team working skills, such as high ropes, archery and caving.

  • Harvest Festival

    Thank you to everyone who attended the Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School 2012 Harvest Festival.

    The children gave a wonderful performance, celebrating farming and the season.

    We managed to raise £100 for charity, so thanks to everyone who contributed to the stall or bought something.
