  • Family of Schools Easter Service

    26th March 2013 - Queen Elizabeth's Academy

    On Monday 25th March over 80 students from across Queen Elizabeth’s Family of Schools took part in the Easter Service at St Mark’s Church.

    Queen Elizabeth’s Jackson James, Shannon Glaves and Kayla Lyons performed a short sketch about Jesus washing his disciple’s feet. The students researched and reflected on this sketch and even helped to make their own costumes for the service. Mr Smith (Principal) re-enacted the washing of the disciples' feet by washing the feet of some of the members of the congregation.


  • Visit from the Civic Mayor

    26th March 2013 - Rowena Academy

    The Civic Mayor visited the Academy for an Assembly to thank the children for their fundraising efforts for the Charities of the Civic Mayor.

  • National Schools Badminton

    25th March 2013 - The Vale Academy

    Congratulations to The Vale Academy KS4 boys badminton team who have reached the Center Parcs National Finals. They will be representing Yorkshire! It takes place on 21st and 22nd April at Sherwood Forest.

    Sarah Milne will be at the Finals as the young Team England star, Sarah has been in to The Vale Academy recently running some Badminton Workshops with our students.

  • Youth Conversation Event

    22nd March 2013 - Queen Elizabeth's Academy

    On Thursday 21st March Queen Elizabeth’s Academy students were invited by Mansfield District Council to take part in the Youth Conversation Event which was held at Mansfield Library.

    The aim of the day was for young people to be informed by service providers of what they do within the district of Mansfield.  Some of the service providers that were in attendance and that consulted with our students were the Police, Services from Mansfield District Council Teams - Housing, Town Centre Developments and Mansfiel

  • Ash Hill Dance Festival

    21st March 2013 - Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

    We are all very proud of our Year 6 students, who took part in the Ash Hill Academy dance festival on Thursday 21st March.

    Amelia, Ash, Elli, Ellie, Georgia, Jessica, Mitch, Rosie and Thea worked really hard with Mrs Gray and Donna, to produce a great street-dance inspired routine.

    We can't wait for the next event in June, where we plan to enter groups from different year groups.

    Well done again to the pupils for representing our school in the community!

  • Mansfield Bus Station Opening

    20th March 2013 - Queen Elizabeth's Academy

    On Monday 18th March a selection Y7 students visited the new Mansfield Bus Station. Students received a personnel tour by the Project Manager who gave the students facts and figures about the design and build of the Bus Station.

    Students were informed that the grounds the Bus Station had been developed on were sacred grounds; the original Quaker burial site had created implications during the building process, as bones had been found on the site.  Students were surprised by this information and asked “What h

  • Year 6 Sculpture visit

    19th March 2013 - Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

    Year 6 recently travelled into Doncaster to take part in a workshop offered by Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery.

    The ‘hands on’ workshop allowed the children to develop their understanding of shape, form, texture and the sensory quality of materials.  They were also able to make their own three-dimensional sculpture in the form of a clay maquette [small scale model].  The visit also included a tour of the centre, as well as an opportunity to see the current Paola McClure exhibition “Sparkle and Spin”.

  • Blackpool Hair Festival

    18th March 2013 - De Warenne Academy

    A group of students who are studying for a VTCT qualification in hairdressing in the sixth form recently attended the Blackpool Hair Festival. This is a national competition where students can both compete and spectate. The standard is high as competitors come from salons and colleges all over the country. Three of our students entered the competitions and did really well. The girls were inspired by what they saw and are keen to further develop their skills and enter again next year.

  • Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

    15th March 2013 - The Vale Academy

    Throughout the spring term, students from The Vale Academy have been working with members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The workshops lasted for a total of 6 days, culminating in 2 performances at the Baths Hall given to a full house of pupils on both occasions. Activities included composing a piece of music which was performed by students and the RPO, learning about event management, repertoire and presenting large scale concerts.

  • Red Nose Day 15th March 2013

    15th March 2013 - Park View Primary Academy

    Today we fundraised in style for this year's Comic Relief Red Nose Day

    Children and staff enjoyed dressing up as either their favourite book character to celebrate the end of book week, or just dressed up for the fun of it!!

    Through the sale of red noses and the non uniform day, we raised the fantastic total of £330   (and still counting!)


    A big well done to everyone who donated, dressed up and did something funny for money.


  • Love Beeston, Clean Beeston 2

    15th March 2013 - Park View Primary Academy

    On Thursday 14th March we once again took part in the South Leeds Community Alliance Big Community Clean Up - 'Love Beeston, Clean Beeston' Campaign.  The 'clean up hour' covered the streets on Harlech Road, Woodview Road, Harlech Avenue and the area around around Park View Primary Academy.

  • Red Nose Day 2013

    15th March 2013 - Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

    A big thank you to everyone for your contributions on Red Nose Day.

    Everyone had a great day with crazy hair and various activities taking place all over the school.

    Importantly we were able to show the children where their money goes to and importantly, how they can help other people in the UK and around the world.

    We are all so proud of the fund raising - we raised £460.50!

    Mrs Overfield from LCC Catering Agency has been working with our academy to create more interesting dishes for our school dinner menu. 

    At the beginning of March, members from our School Council had a very successful and enjoyable time tasting some of the dishes that will feature in the Summer menu.  They were given a sheet to 'score' the foods by putting a sticker next to the description - love it, like it, not sure, dislike it, hate it!   • Bird in your Ear

    13th March 2013 - The Vale Academy

    The Vale Academy pupils were treated to a 2 hour workshop given by the flap your feathers theatre company. Based on developing literacy and story telling skills, the session was welcomed  with real excitement by the pupils who composed their own stories based on objects that were given to them.

    The theatre company then presented "Bird in your Ear" during an evening performance which delighted the audience both young and old.

    It was a pure 90 mins of professionalism by the actors and Westmoor Hall was complete

  • Love Beeston, Clean Beeston

    13th March 2013 - Park View Primary Academy

    On Thursday, 28th February, children and staff helped in the South Leeds Community Alliance Big Community Clean Up, part of the 'Love Beeston, Clean Beeston' Campaign.

    We met up with other volunteers from the community including members from Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Police at the Hamara Centre to clean up the area around Maud Avenue and around our school.

    Over the coming months, regular litter-picks will be held in a different streets every week, with residents urged to get involved.  At the end,

  • Brass Master Class

    13th March 2013 - The Vale Academy

    We were honoured to host a brass masterclass given by Christopher Deacon. Chris is principal trumpet for the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. He has provided the trumpet playing for many films including Harry Potter, Disney and Warner Bros. He was the trumpet soloist at the Royal wedding as well as the London 2012 Olympic Games. He has made solo appearances in Europe and the Far East and has taught for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

  • World Book Day 2013

    7th March 2013 - Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School

    On Thursday the 7th March, all of the children and staff at Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School dressed up in their pyjamas to celebrate World Book Day!

    The children started the day by finding out about the event in a whole school assembly and then they were read a story by a teacher from a different class.

    As part of this event, we also took the opportunity to launch our new 'buddy' system, where each child was paired up with a child in another year group. The aim is to ensure that children have a mentor and
