  • Summer 2013 Leavers Presentation Evening

    3rd December 2013 - Manor Croft Academy
    On Thursday 28th November, Manor Croft Academy was graced with a Rugby League legend, Danny Brough.
    The previous night, Danny was receiving the award for ‘International Stand Off' for 2013 while also being on a short list of three, for the ‘International Player’ of the year which eventually went to New Zealand star Sonny Bill Williams.
    With such a busy schedule for the 2013 Man of Steel, we were delighted that Danny had the time to support our 2013 leavers and congratulate them on the highest grades obtaine

    The Vale Academy brass ensemble performed to a packed audience at the Baths Hall for the local authority community champions awards evening. The group thoroughly enjoyed being on the main stage and gave a superb performance. For more pictures see  the gallery on our curriculum music page.
  • Volcano competition heats up

    2nd December 2013 - De Warenne Academy

    Mr Pughsley and Mrs Sneddon have been inundated by entries for the Year 8 volcano competition. Students have been studying the topic of tectonics in geography lessons and have produced some amazing volcano projects. Many students have also worked closely with Mrs Sneddon the school librarian and this has undoubtedly had a huge impact on the quality of the entries this year.   • Transition Ambassador Training

    2nd December 2013 - Manor Croft Academy

    Twenty five of our Year 8 students participated in a two day training course that was devised to develop their leadership skills. The rigorous course was facilitated by an external provider specialising in training young people to be confident Student Ambassadors.

    Manor Croft Academy is building strong links with Primary Feeder Schools and these student Ambassadors provide a vital link to ensure that Year 6 students arrive at Manor Croft Academy fully prepared for Secondary School.

  • School Leadership Interviews

    2nd December 2013 - Manor Croft Academy

    On Friday over 80 students stayed behind after school for the Student Leader interviews. This was the second phase of the selection process that has seen over 110 entries.

    Year 11 students have been writing application forms for the Prefect roles within school. The staff see these students as vital role models for the rest of the Academy. To justify this level of responsibility a two phased application process was devised to ensure they were put through a rigorous selection process.

  • Sports Leaders to Meet Sky Sports Athlete

    29th November 2013 - Melior Community Academy

    The scheme is part of Sky Sports for living projects. Its aim is to encourage competition and exercise in Secondary Schools.  20 students were selected to complete a competition and register online.  The project has been agreed and Melior's 20 students have been assigned an athlete mentor who can be anyone of 50 named on the website!

  • Barcelona Parents Evening

    29th November 2013 - Melior Community Academy

    There will be a Parents Evening on Thursday 23rd January 2014 for the parents of the students who are going to Barcelona in April 2014.  This evening will provide parents with all the information they need to know regarding the visit and will be the perfect opportunity for them to raise any questions or concerns.  Students are required to attend this event.

    It was Manor Croft Academy's delight to welcome Richard McCann into school today to give an inspirational speech to our Year 11 students.

    The students had spent the day completing their UCAS progress forms. Many of them had reflected throughout the day on what career path to take next. Having successfully completed the sessions they were given the opportunity to listen to a heart rendering story from Richard.

    Congratulations the KS4 boys team who won the North Lincs badminton competition and will play in the Humberside round in February at the Humber School Games.

    In February 2014 7 G&T students will be attending John Leggott College who have organised a Year 11 Geography afternoon for all schools in North Lincolnshire.  The College will be delivering a carouselle of activities to stretch students' learning.

    On Monday 9th December Melior will be taking 6 G&T students to Frederick Gough School to compete in the Geography Associations Worldwise Quiz against other schools in North Lincolnshire. If they win they will advance to Nationals.

    You may be aware in 2011 the Government changed the way that schools are funded. Additional funding has been awarded to schools where pupils are in receipt of free school meals or have been so in the last 6 years.     On the Wednesday 13th November Year 5 students from Farmilo Primary School took part in an Arts afternoon to make Festive items to sell at our Victorian Christmas Market which takes place on Thursday 28th November.  The students took part in four activities: Candy Cane Holder’s, Reindeer Tree Decorations, Glass Painting and Lantern making.

  • Year 7 Street and Break Dance

    During this half-term in the run up to the Christmas holidays, students in Year 7 are being introduced to the art of Street and Break Dance.  Jon, the Dance Tutor, will be offering an after Academy class on Wednesdays beginning in January 2014.  Students that have taken part this half-term are invited to express interest for this club and register their names with Mrs Riley before Christmas if they would like to take part.

    During a visit to West Nottinghamshire College, Year 11 students enjoyed getting to grips with media equipment in a TV studio and the hub. Students experienced many of the camera techniques and equipment they have learned about in their ICT lessons. All students played important roles, such as a TV presenter, control room operator or camera operator and thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
