  • Young Enterprise

    2nd March 2014 - The Vale Academy

    Another successful day for The Young Enterprise team.... they didn't sell out this time but they did win an award for the best product. There was a lot of competition with about 20 other teams attending the trade fair so the team did really well to win this award.

  • Year 8 Netball

    The year 8 netball team finished second in the North Lincs tournament and will go on to represent North Lincs at the Humber School Games in April.

  • Pintsize Theatre Visit

    On Friday 28th February 2014 Year 8 Students received a performance from the Pintsize Theatre Company.  The production of ’I Want! I Want!’ focused on four separate birthdays in the life of Rosie, a young female motor mechanic who is being put under enormous pressure to get drunk on her 18th birthday.   • ENCORE 2014 for Years 7-10

    25th February 2014 - Melior Community Academy

    Due to the phenomenal success of ENCORE last year, we have decided to run this trip in 2014.

    The weekend will consist of Workshops led by top dancers and choreographers; live performances from some of the best Street Dance Crews in the UK as well as performances from reality TV stars from Got to Dance, Britain’s Got talent and the X Factor Dancers.

    Accommodation will be based at the resort (Brean Sands, Somerset) and in their popular chalets.

    25th February 2014 - Melior Community Academy

    A small group of our Year 10 students will be attending Forest Pines this evening to participate in the Young Enterprise Workshop.  They will be designing personalised mobile phone cases.  They will then attend a competition at Baths Hall in April and if successful will progress onto regional competitions. Updates will be provided on Facebook and on the Academy's website.

    Destined to be on broadway? You could get there sooner than you think! Melior Community Academy are organising a NEW YORK TRIP for Easter 2016!!

    There will be a general parent/student meeting on 17th March 2014 at 6:00pm in the Atrium for any student in years 7/8/9 who would like to find out more information and to show their interest in this subject.

    Direct Payments Service Users Ltd, are local charity and assist over 2,000 people across Nottinghamshire County and Nottingham City to remain in their own homes and communities.  They are a proud disabled person’s user led organisation.

    At the beginning of February, the art rooms at the academy were a flurry of activity as four of our More Able And Talented (MAAT) students, with the help of two dedicated members of staff, began handcrafting Fairtrade jewellery ready to sell for Fairtrade Fortnight. By creating their own beads, cut from Fairtrade paper, the girls produced some creative and inspiring designs ready to sell on their Fairtrade stall.     All the children and staff came to school wearing hats for the day to raise money to continue to sponsor Peter Kaira in Malawi through the charity Action Aid. The event raised an amazing £254.14!! Well done everyone.

  • Year 11 Kirklees Basketball Champions!

    20th February 2014 - Manor Croft Academy

    Last night the Year 11 basketball team representing Manor Croft Academy made history. For the first time in the ten years that the Kirklees basketball competition has been running, a North Kirklees school has beaten a team from the South.

    Having secured the North Kirklees league the week before, the final was set to be a great showdown. Just getting to the final was a huge task. The students had been participating in a league of ten teams playing weekly, in order to see who came out on top.

  • Valentine’s Day Stall

    17th February 2014 - The South Leeds Academy


    To celebrate the most romantic day of the year, students at the academy decided to mark the event by selling handmade Valentine’s Cards and love-heart sweets. By combining the design talents of the Crafts Club and the entrepreneurial skills of our Year 11 girls, the team raised £60.90 in 30 minutes. All proceeds of the sale have been donated to the Dance Club, who will use the money to buy costumes for their much-anticipated production of ‘Cinderella’.

  • Year 8 report on the Sheffield Steelers

    17th February 2014 - De Warenne Academy

    A group of Year 8 students who are following the Write Right course were invited by the Sheffield Steelers to report on an ice hockey game. The students were welcomed into the press room to interview head coach Doug Christiansen before the game. Bob Westerdale of the Sheffield Star, Seth Bennet of the BBC and Peter Spencer were also on hand to answer any questions about journalism and how to create the perfect article.

    The Mathematics Department will be holding a Revision morning on Friday 21st February 2014 starting at 9.00am. The revision will be focussed on Higher and Foundation Papers.  There will be a Pizza lunch provided at 12.30pm for anyone who attends.
