  • Y9 Ambitions Event University of Nottingham

    26th November 2014 - Queen Elizabeth's Academy

    On Wednesday 26th November, a group of identified Y9 more able students took part in their first visit to the University of Nottingham. The Ambitions Programme is regarding supporting students through their exam preparation and helping to raise their ambitions by looking at universities as a route to their further education. Our Y10 cohort will be taking part in their 3rd visit on Monday 15 December 2014.

    Nursery parents should have received a letter from Nursery with regards to your child having flouride applied to their teeth.

    Can we just ask that all slips are returned to school by Friday 12th December as the application is taking place on Monday 15th December.

     

  • First Half Term Rewards

    Over the first half term we had a huge amount of students benefiting from the Don Valley learner points and these were rewarded in various ways. Text messages, postcards, phone calls were made on a regular basis but we also awarded the following certificates:

    • Bronze certificate for 50 DV learner points = 657 students
    • Silver certificate for 75 DV learner points = 574 students
    • Gold certificate for 100 DV learner points = 438 students
    • Platinum certificate for 150 DV learner points = 82 students

  • Junior School Indoor Athletics Competition

    26th November 2014 - Manor Croft Academy

    Well done to all those students who participated in the Junior School Indoor Athletic competition this afternoon. Bywell, Chickenley and Hanging Heaton were fighting it out to see which school would represent the North of Kirklees later on in the academic year. Whichever school turns out to be the winner, Manor Croft Academy wishes them luck in representing our North Kirklees area in the final.

    The wild and windy weather outside the theatre had no chance of dampening spirits of the Don Valley Pageturners as the 11th Doncaster Book Award got underway this October.  As last year, the CAST theatre was full to the brim with over 500 excited children and guests, all eagerly anticipating the treats in store.  They were not disappointed!

    From December 2014, Post Offices will no longer sell MetroCard products. Pupils who currently buy weekly or monthly School Plus or 16-25 tickets can now buy them at over 700 Payzone outlets.   • Talented mathematicians rise to the challenge

    25th November 2014 - Don Valley Academy

    Our A-Level pupils recently competed in the UK Maths Challenge.

    The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. The UKMT organises national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for 11-18 year old UK school pupils.

    Four of our Year 12 students were successful in achieving a certificate. One student won best in school and achieved a silver award and three were awarded with bronze awards.

    Twenty-five students from the newly formed Elland Academy have learnt about the importance of remembrance this week, thanks to SkillForce -  an education charity that draws on the values of ex-Forces personnel.

  • Candlelight Concert

    24th November 2014 - Hanson School

    We are once again looking forward to our yearly Christmas Candlelight Concert to be held on Thursday 11th December, 6.30 pm. at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Idle. The evening will be rounded off with mulled wine and mince pies for everyone.  Tickets are available from Student Reception £3.00 / £2.00 concessions.

    Jane has been back in school today and met with our School Council. They discussed the different foods that we might have in our packed lunches and tried to find some healthy alternatives. Our councillors had some great ideas about how they would like to improve our lunchtimes.

    For those ex-students who did not attend Year 12 Presentation Evening last night your GCSE Certificates can be collected from Student Services. Please note the certificates have to be signed for.   If you are unable to collect your certificates in person then you must send in written confirmation for someone else to collect them on your behalf.

  • Non-uniform day Friday 21st November

    MCA are holding a non-uniform day on Fri 21st Nov for Anti Bullying week. Students pay £1 towards the school Anti Bullying fund and wear something BLUE. No fancy dress please, only clothes suitable and appropriate for school.

  • Enterprise Day

    20th November 2014 - Estcourt Primary Academy

    9 children accompanied by Mrs Leslie went to the Global Enterprise Day at The Guildhall. Their challenge was to create an App linked to City of Culture 2017. The children worked extremely hard and put their Big 13 skills to good use. It was a fantastic day.
