  • Manor Croft Academy Student News Team Report

    4th March 2015 - Manor Croft Academy

    Here at Manor Croft Academy we have recently established a News Team, made up of Year 7 and 8 students. Our aim is to participate in the BBC Schools New Report this year on Thursday 19th March.

    Our club runs every Tuesday during lunchtime in the library. At the present time we are developing are skills in preparation, learning how to select newsworthy items, conduct interviews as well as editing and publish news reports.

  • Joint Leadership Day

    4th March 2015 - The South Leeds Academy

    The day began with a presentation from John Sullivan – an ex-army militant who geared the students up ready to work as a team in the outside problem solving tasks.

    Transfer 3 tennis balls from 1 side to the next without touching them. The teams had to build a free standing structure using only bamboo sticks, pipes  and elastic bands.


    Claire Young – apprentice finalist, lead the next part of the day where the students were in mixed teams of 8 and were given a topic to devise a presentation for.

  • Rotary Club 24th Child of Courage Award

    3rd March 2015 - Queen Elizabeth's Academy

    On Tuesday 3 March 2015 Jean - Luc Evans, a Year 11 student was nominated for Mansfield's Rotary Club's 24th Child of Courage Award.

    Jean-Luc has a positive and creative personality, who doesn’t let his condition of cerebral palsy hold him back from making the most out of Academy life.  Jean-Luc has always shown courage to get on with his learning at the Academy, no matter how he might be feeling.  His subject strengths are in French, Science and English, and his teachers state that he is a keen student and

    3rd March 2015 - Park View Primary Academy

    Today, we had a visit from a teacher who works at Mzuvele high school in Durban, South Africa. 

    Siyanda gave both South Leeds studemts and some of our children a glimpse into the types of things he teaches his own students over in South Africa. He lead an Art lesson to a group of year 7 students who designed their own African masks and a lesson in choir singing to a group of year 4 and year 8 students who had lots and lots of fun.

  • Butterflies Stay & Make

    3rd March 2015 - Grange Lane Infant Academy

    Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our stay and make session this morning for Butterflies class. Using lots of craft resources, paper, card and pens the task was to make a mask. Which as you can see from the pictures gave some fabulous results!


  • Mediterranean cooking in Year 3

    3rd March 2015 - Wainwright Primary Academy

    3P had a cooking morning in February, they cooked a Moussaka, Tortilla, Greek salad, Pesto and pasta and Minestrone soup. Each group cooked the dishes from scratch and Miss Kirkbride cooked them in the oven. When they were cooked all the class tried the dishes and commented on what they liked and what they did not like about the food.


    The children then tried foods such as: Mango, Pineapple, Kiwi, Grapes, Avacado, Lime, Melon, French Stick, Pitta Bread, Goats Cheese, Brie Cheese and Olives. They rated the fo

  • World Book Day

    3rd March 2015 - Melior Community Academy

    Thursday 5th March 2015 is World Book Day and at Melior Community Academy we will be providing a Whole School Extended Learning Project.  This project will require the students to identify the member of staff, the character they have come dressed up as and then go home and find out a fact about each character.

    Completed forms are to be submitted by 25th March to receive a prize of chocolate eggs.

  • Bananagrams

    2nd March 2015 - Simpsons Lane Academy

    Bananagrams is a fast and fun word game that requires no pencil, paper or board. All you need is a table. One hand can be played in as little as five minutes. It is great for family fun as well as being educational. Bananagrams' portability makes it perfect for travel. Just grab the pouch and go.

    Year 6 held a Banagrams Tournament and Ryan Witney was our Champion!

    On Monday 2 March 2015, Neil Meadows from Gideons International, came to support a Humanities lesson and to present testaments to year 7 students.

  • Academy Parliament Meeting

    26th February 2015 - Queen Elizabeth's Academy

    An Academy Parliament Meeting was held on 26 February 2015. The meeting was chaired by the Head Boy Sufian Choudhury, and Deputy Head Girl Rebecca James.

    The items on the agenda were Halifax Big Lunch 2015, Maun Valley Citizens, House Names and Academy improvement suggestions.

    Following this meeting year meeting will commence on the 9 March 2015.

    Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to our stay and make session. In preparation for Science Week, Miss Braim has given Year 2's and Year 1's the task of building a vehicle from a pop bottle.

  • Transition Thursday’s

    25th February 2015 - Manor Croft Academy

    The Academy would like to thank the Junior schools of Chickenley, Eastborough, Bywell and Hanging Heaton for promoting the ‘Transition Thursday’ taster lessons to their students. Last week we had our largest turn out yet to work in Science. Over 55 students attended the session where they were building towers with spaghetti and marshmallows. The activities take place all year with experiences available for all of our academic areas.
