    8th October 2015 - Ash Hill Academy

    The academy is holding its Post 16 Open Evening on Thursday 8 October 2015 5.30pm to 7pm.

    8th October 2015 - Grange Lane Infant Academy

    We went on a bear hunt, we were gonna catch a big one and we weren't scared!

    Even when we had to stumble trip through the big dark forest making cave buildings!

    Even when we had to swishy swashy through the long wavy grass looking for treasure!

    Even when we had to search through the squelchy squerchy oozy mud for natural forest materials to make our own bear!

    And even when we had to tip toe round the camp fire to get some pop corn!

    We weren't scared of no bear!

  • The Elland Academy visits Media City.

    7th October 2015 - The Elland Academy
    On 6th October, some of our students visited BBC centre in Manchester, this was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their knowledge of the careers in news and television. All the students had a great day and were fascinated with how the news is developed. They are looking forward to applying this in their I-media and ICT lessons.

  • The Opera comes to JWA

    7th October 2015 - John Whitgift Academy


    On the 23rd & 24th September 2015, 51 year 8,9,10 students were involved in workshops with the Garsington Opera company. They were chosen due to their exceptional progress in performing arts lessons & involvement in extra curricular activities. Working in MAPAS, thanks to Sue Baker, the students were put through their musical & dramatic paces. The workshops were based on Mozart’s very well-known opera “Cossi fan tutte” Over the 2 days students worked with 4 members of the Opera company on a range of music

  • Asda's community champion works with year 2

    7th October 2015 - Craven Primary Academy

     On Wednesday 7th October our fabulous Community Champion Jo, from Asda Mount Pleasant came in to work with our Year 2's. As part of their topic work the class have designed fruit kebabs and with the generous donation of fruit from Jo we were able to make the designs come to life. Everyone enjoyed getting hands on with the variety of fruit with many children trying them for the first time. The classroom smelt wonderful and it was great seeing the colourful kebabs.

    6th October 2015 - The Grove Academy


    All the students worked very hard and were rewarded with excellent grades.  The exhibition has a very personal feel, with a lot of experimental work.

    It was clear that the course structure was designed to cater for very individual needs and that the teaching and learning process was based on understanding and concern for the individual. Whilst Rarely have I seen such personal and expressive work. It was a privilege to re-moderate this centre.

    Students from The Grove Academy had an informative, as well as fun, day at the Careers in Focus event which took place at the Yorkshire Showground on Tuesday 6th October.  The aim of the event was to provide students with information about a whole range of careers that they might like to consider in the future. The event concentrates to some degree on careers in the countryside. Students found the event extremely useful.     2nd October 2015 - The Elland Academy

    The Elland Academy hosted the launch event of the partnership between the School Partnership Trust and The Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Clinical Services (NSCAP). The partnership is an exciting opportunity for students at The Elland Academy to be supported by specialist NHS staff who are able to support students with mental health and emotional issues.

    The event welcomed stakeholders from across the region whose interest was to find out what the partnership entailed.  They found out

    Celebrations for National Poetry Day were in full swing during Friday afternoon with our new Poetry Jams for all of our pupils. We started the afternoon with poetry performances by our children in Early Years and Key Stage One. They were all outstanding and the children loved both performing and listening to the wide range of poems! Well done to the winners of the Best Overall Performance for EY and KS1 - Class 2H. An excellent performance! 
    Later on in the afternoon it was the turn of our pupils in KS2. Wow

    Josh Pinder and Joe Summers (pictured here with rugby league legend, Jamie Peacock) are no strangers to our ‘roll of honour’ as they have already been featured in previous news reports for their rugby successes. Last term however, even we could not have imagined the amazing achievement of these boys. Both of them were selected to play in the England Under 15s Rugby League squad against Wales in August.     On Thursday 1st October Zoo Lab came into to the academy to visit Foundation and Year 1 as part of their topic. The children got the chance to hold different animals. They looked at animal habitats and senses and textures.

    Starting from next week beginning 5th October after school at 3:10pm every Thursday parents are invited to help their child to choose a book from the new library in the main entrance after school at 3:10 – 3.30pm every Thursday.

    Come and see the giant dragon egg close up! Choose a lovely bedtime book to read with your child.
