Well done to all of the children, staff and parents for supporting us with the race for life.  We have raised a fantastic amount of money, the grand total to date is £1067.50!!

  • Box Clever Theatre Company visit

    13th October 2015 - John Whitgift Academy

     On Thursday 8th October Box Clever theatre company came in to perform 'The Hate Play' - a play about the dangers of turning a blind eye to bullying - for Year 8 and Year 9 students. The play was energetic and informative, and many students picked up on the important message it communicated. Twenty-eight year 9 students then took part in a workshop, where they had the change to write their own monologues for one of the five professional actors to perform. It was a very enjoyable experience for all involved!

  • Oakes Holiday Centre

    12th October 2015 - Queen Elizabeth's Academy

    Students and staff from the Academy enjoyed a second visit to the Oakes Holiday Centre, demonstrating just how much an impression the Oakes has had on our students and staff at Queen Elizabeth’s Academy during the first visit last year.  The visit took place over three days, 12-14 October, and students were given the opportunity to understand and learn more about the Christian faith and develop their team working skills by learning to trust others of whom they did not already know.

  • Enterpise Week

    12th October 2015 - Estcourt Primary Academy

    We held our very first Enterprise week from Monday 12th October until Friday 16th October. As it was Hull Fair we linked our Entreprise ventures around that. Each class was given a budget of £10 which they used to either make, bake or buy something they could show to parents at our Enterprise Fair on the Friday morning. The children used their Big 13 skills including: Financial Literacy, Creativity & Innovation, Product Design and Teamwork. It was great to see the children really engaging with their tasks.

  • Author visit from David Lawrence Jones

    12th October 2015 - Craven Primary Academy

    On Monday 12th October we had the pleasure of David Laurence Jones coming in to the academy to do a showcase to all the children. We spent the morning hearing all about how David became a children's author and were introduced to the characters from his books. Everyone came out the hall eager to read more about these exciting fictional characters.

     On Friday 9th October we were invited by Dransfield Properties who have built the shopping complex on Holderness Road, to help the Lord Mayor open the new B&M store on the site, our naming competition winners were joined by Head boy and girl and took part in the ribbon cutting before doing the press call and been treated to some delicious lunch from Subway.     We went on a bear hunt, we were gonna catch a big one and we weren't scared!

    Even when we had to stumble trip through the big dark forest making cave buildings!

    Even when we had to swishy swashy through the long wavy grass looking for treasure!

    Even when we had to search through the squelchy squerchy oozy mud for natural forest materials to make our own bear!

    And even when we had to tip toe round the camp fire to get some pop corn!

    We weren't scared of no bear!

  • The Elland Academy visits Media City.

    7th October 2015 - The Elland Academy
    On 6th October, some of our students visited BBC centre in Manchester, this was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their knowledge of the careers in news and television. All the students had a great day and were fascinated with how the news is developed. They are looking forward to applying this in their I-media and ICT lessons.

  • The Opera comes to JWA

    7th October 2015 - John Whitgift Academy

     

    On the 23rd & 24th September 2015, 51 year 8,9,10 students were involved in workshops with the Garsington Opera company. They were chosen due to their exceptional progress in performing arts lessons & involvement in extra curricular activities. Working in MAPAS, thanks to Sue Baker, the students were put through their musical & dramatic paces. The workshops were based on Mozart’s very well-known opera “Cossi fan tutte” Over the 2 days students worked with 4 members of the Opera company on a range of music

  • Literacy Festival

    7th October 2015 - The South Leeds Academy

    Marc Doyle received a £100 cheque from Principal Resourcing, Leeds as a donation towards our Literacy Festival which is being held for Key Stage 3 parents and students on Monday 19 October from 5 – 7pm. The cheque was presented by Ursula Fearn who works closely with the Academy. The donation is being put towards raffle prizes for the event which have been chosen by our pupils.
