  • Year 5 London Trip

    30th November 2016 - Craven Primary Academy

    Year 5 students were lucky enough to take a trip to London this term! They watched the amazing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the West End and visited the Science Museum! It was a truely incredible two days!

    On Monday afternoon as part of our Enrichment program, Mrs Doyle and Mrs Wakeham took some of our female students across to Coppice School, to engage their female students in a range of fun activities. Having been invited by Coppice Deputy Head Mrs Willis to form the collaborative “Coppice Girls” support group, girls from all years at Ash Hill were willing and eager to help.

  • Scrabble Dash in English

    29th November 2016 - The Elland Academy

    Students have been testing their vocabulary and spelling skills by playing Scrabble Dash. The group s in English have learnt to play the game together so they had to read the instructions and ensure that they all knew what they had to do, they had to recap vowels and consonants and work independently. This was our first experience of playing the game but the students were so engaged and doing so well we may have accidentally set a new trend at The Elland.

  • Year 11 'Preparation for Exams' Evening

    29th November 2016 - Melior Community Academy

    We will be holding a 'Preparation for Exams' evening for our Year 11 students and their parents on Thursday, 8th December 2016 between 6pm and 8pm. The evening is aimed at supporting our students and their parents as they work towards their GCSE examinations.

    The event is sponsored by Vision for Education and pie and peas will be provided for those parents and students attending. Please see the letter below for further information or contact the academy.

    29th November 2016 - Garforth Academy

    The Year 10 boys footballers progressed into the last 64 of the English schools competition after a very tough encounter at King James, Knaresborough.

    Despite Garforth’s early possession, it was King James who had the better opportunities and they took the lead midway through the first half after a well-placed free kick from the edge of the area found the bottom corner.

    This year Craven are very excited to announce that we are taking part in the 'Make £5 Blossom' Project.

    The project involves a local business providing a class of children with a £150 loan so they can use it to develop and demonstrate their enterprising and entrepreneurial skills. At the launch the business will get to meet the teacher and a couple of the pupils, and this is usually the first time they have been introduced.     16 of our Maths students in Year 11 are engaging in a 10 week programme at Elliot Hudson College with the dual purpose of supporting their maths outcomes and raising aspirations.

    We are now 3 weeks in and the students are making fantastic progress!

    As part of the Christmas competitions, students were asked to design and make a tree topper for the Academy Christmas Tree in main reception. The winning entry was judged by Mr Higgins on Friday, and placed on the Academy Christmas Tree by Year 7 students with the Christmas Bauble competition entries.

    Young Writers Poetry Competition

    Pupils from Serlby Park Academy Primary have recently taken part in a fantastic poetry writing competition entitled "Once Upon a Dream"

    Many pupils took part and several of the poems have now been selected for publication and will appear in a  brand new book called 'Once Upon a Dream - South Yorkshire' which is due to be published early next year. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at a cost of £15.99 during the spring term from www.youngwriters.co.uk

    The Academy is supporting the Samaritan’s Purse shoebox appeal.  We would appreciate complete shoeboxes, empty shoeboxes, Christmas wrapping paper, items to go in the boxes or cash donations towards the costs of sending them.  We are also continuing to act as a collection point for any member of the public or organisation wishing to donate shoeboxes to this well-established appeal which sees boxes of Christmas cheer delivered to needy children in different parts of the world.   For more information, please

    28th November 2016 - Manor Croft Academy

    Today Manor Croft Music Department was visited by a Music Industry Specialist who gave a careers and industry talk to the Year 10 BTEC music group.  Sam Day, a live sound technician and engineer, lead a discussion on his role working within the music industry across the UK and internationally.  Following the talk the Year 10's then took part in a Q&A session which allowed them to ask in depth questions related to working in live music performance.  This industry based discussion gave the pupils an invaluabl

    Our Year 8 students have been involved in a design competition, as part of their Art work, to design the official Ash Hill Academy 2016 Christmas card. The entries were very difficult for Mr Higgins to judge, as the quality of design was so high, and it was clear that a lot of thought was put into them by Year 8.

    However, we can now announce the winners of the Christmas Card competition:

    Could you build a bridge with limited time and resources to span a gap and hold the weight of an adult? Last week student’s across the academy took on this challenge!
