  • Football Update

    25th January 2018 - Green Lane Primary Academy

    Our boys U11 football team were in action this afternoon at St. Theresa's Primary school. It was the second round of the Falkingham Cup. The team put in a battling and very determined effort from start to finish but sadly they lost 1 -0. They couldn't have tried any harder to win the game, coming close to scoring on several occasions. Rudy C was inches away from scoring with a great free kick attempt in the first half. Reuben B also narrowly missed scoring. The majority of the team consist of Year 5 childre

  • Year 10 Rugby Success

    25th January 2018 - Garforth Academy

    The Year 10 Rugby team played a very tight game against Ripon Grammar School this afternoon.
    The boys were really brilliant and played well in a close game between two very big physical sides. Garforth ran in four tries to Ripon's three, converting three of them and ended up winning 26-17.
    The boys now progress to the Yorkshire Cup Semi Finals and play Wickersley Sports College or Rodillian Academy at home.

  • MCA Celebrate Success

    Following the release of the secondary performance tables today, we are hugely excited and proud to share that the Academy are above national figures for both attainment and progress. We are also one of the most improved schools in the whole country.

    We are also now the third highest performing academy across the Delta Trust. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff and students at the academy.

  • JWA represent Grimsby Town U13 Girls

    24th January 2018 - John Whitgift Academy

    A group of girls recently attended Barnsley to represent Grimsby Town U13 Girls, they all played outstanding in every game, despite the tough competition.

    The girls finished 3rd in their division. The final scores were:


    Grimsby Town 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Grimsby Town 1-0 Barnsley

    Grimsby Town  1-3 Bradford


    Middlesbrough v Hull was the final and the winners then progressed to the national finals at Wembley.

    The girls did put in a fantastic effort, both locally and regionally, represent Grimsby Town and were a credit

  • Dodgeball Tournament

    A massive well done to the 14 children who represented Mersey at the Hull Schools Dodgeball semi-finals last Friday! You did yourselves and the Academy proud coming 2nd and 4th!

    An extra well done to the year 5/6 team who made it through to the Finals on Wednesday evening coming 3rd in their group event.

  • Grandparent lunch

    24th January 2018 - Green Lane Primary Academy

    The first grandparent lunch in October was so popular and over subscribed that we have repeated the event. This week 79 grandparents came to have lunch with their EYFS and KS1 grandchildren. Lunch was stew and dumplings followed by cookies, yoghurt and fruit.

    Thank you to all the staff at school and Chartwells for their hard work in organising the event and to all our families for their support. We have recieved some lovely feedback and the children loved it.

  • Open Door maths lesson

    24th January 2018 - Green Lane Primary Academy

    We invited parents in to see a maths lesson last week and it was very well supported - thank you. In September Year 1-year 6 are taught maths using the Same Day Intervention (SDI) maths strategy. The lesson is divided into two parts and parents were able to see the first 40 minutes.

    Some of the feedback recieved was as folllows:

    Year 4 had a fantastic visit to the Sikh Temple- we learnt so much about their traditions and beliefs. We are all fascinated!

Features included a scary clown, zombie army boy and a very scared school girl. Next time you find a phone in a creepy basement, think twice about picking it up, especially if the doors open on their own!

  • Toy Stories Mini Sagas Competition Winners

    23rd January 2018 - Serlby Park Academy

    Congratulations and well done to pupils in KS1 and KS2 who have had their mini sagas chosen for publication in the latest book to be published by Young Writers.

    The sagas had to be no longer than 100 words and have a clear beginning, a middle and ending and tell the tales of what toys get up to when no one is around.

    We are delighted to announce that 42 winners have been selected to appear in the latest publication from Young Writers when it comes out in May 2018.

    23rd January 2018 - Mersey Primary Academy

    On Thursday 16th November year 5 went to London for an over night residential. They had a meal at Garfunkels followed by a visit to the Shaftesbury Avenue theatre to see Matilda which was amazing. The next day the children had a great time visiting the Natural History Museum and learning all about life.

    On Friday 15th December we took part in Save the Children's annual christmas jumper day, it was lovely to see all the children in their christmas jumpers. We raised £107.


  • Charlie and Chocolate Factory Experience

    Monday 18th December saw the first of our new reward experiences. The children could use their credits to take part in the'Charlie and Chocolate Factory' experience. There were lots of different activities happening  in the hall.


  • Dentist at GLPA

    22nd January 2018 - Green Lane Primary Academy

    Year 2 had a workshop about how to keep our teeth healthy and clean from dentist Dr. Eggleton (Erin's mum).  The children loved practising brushing the giant teeth, learning about how much sugar is in some of our favourite drinks, were grossed out by horrible decaying teeth, were fascinated by some x-rays, and even got a toothpaste sample to take home!
