    A fantastic evening was had by all at the Christmas Fair. Thank you to all the families who supported this event and to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make sure the event was a success. There are some unclaimed raffle prizes, please check your tickets

  • Five-a-side champions

    12th December 2016 - The Vale Academy

    All conquering Year 7 footballers will represent North Lincolnshire after winning a prestigious five-a-side competition.

    The nine boys won the county’s English Schools’ Football Association’s indoor competition after beating a host of North Lincolnshire schools.

     They topped their league and then went on to beat St Bede’s  2-0 in quarter final; Brumby 2-0 in semi final; and Fred Gough 1-0 in the final.

     The trophy adds to their unbeaten in the league since starting at the Vale Academy.

  • Rugby success

    12th December 2016 - The Vale Academy

     Phenomenal interest in rugby is seeing more than 30 girls attending weekly training in Scunthorpe.

    It comes after Years 8 to 10 have been taking part in the sport this half term during their PE lessons.

     Mrs Emma Taylor said: “The interest has been amazing, with more than 30 girls travelling to Heslam Park, the home of Scunthorpe Rugby Club, on a Thursday night.

     “We have entered four teams in the Under 13s and Under 15s North Lincolnshire touch rugby tournament and three teams very recently in the transition

    Congratulations to Chloe Picken in year 8 for winning the Christmas card competition this year. She produced a well thought out and eye catching design that was then produced as a professional card by Engaging Education.

  • Year 10 Football Victory

    12th December 2016 - Garforth Academy

    The Year 10 footballers progressed to the last 32 schools in England with a 3-1 win at Healing School, Grimsby.

     

    Garforth started the game positively and had numerous opportunities to take the lead but found Healing’s goalkeeper in fantastic form. However, if you keep banging on the door it will eventually open and Kasim M took full advantage of a loose ball at the right hand side of the area and smashed it into the roof of the net.

    There will be NO teacher training day on Jan 3rd so ALL children should return to the academy as normal on Tuesday 3rd January 2017.

    Today we received a cheque for the clothes collection we did for the brilliant charity Breathe For Cameron. On top of the £219 we rasied before the summer holidays, we can now add a further £75. Thank you so much everyone for your kind and generous donations.

    Friday was Christmas Jumper Day. The academy council decided to ask for donations for Save The Children. Also, they ran a competition. Each class chose thier winning jumper and then the Academy Council chose an overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The winner had Merry Christmas written in many languages on the back! Wonderful.

  • History Homework

    9th December 2016 - Hull Trinity House Academy

    Year 9 students had to create a historical accurate World War One trench for their study of warfare. The quality of the work was fabulous. Students used many different materials, varying from clay, plaster of Paris, wood to expanding foam.

     

    All boys had clearly put a lot of time and effort into their projects. Our principal, Mrs Keaney, and the Subject Leader of History, Mr Currie, chose the four best trenches. The winners are:

    • 2nd Wisam Sheri
    • 3rd Will Huyton / James Stewart

    9th December 2016 - Manor Croft Academy

    Numeracy is a proficiency, which is developed mainly in mathematics but also in other subjects.  It is more than an ability to do basic arithmetic.  It involves developing confidence and competence with numbers and measures. It requires understanding of the number system, a repertoire of mathematical techniques, and an inclination and ability to solve quantitative or spatial problems in a range of contexts.  Numeracy also demands understanding of the ways in which data are gathered by counting and measuring
