6th November 2012

Dear Parents

Welcome back from the half term break. We are now in the countdown to Christmas – always a magical, exciting time in school, unless you are a cleaner – I believe glitter and tinsel do nothing for the school vacuum cleaners!!

Children In Need

Friday 16th November is ‘Children in Need’ Day.  The theme is Show your spots and help raise lots’. For a small donation to the charity, put in the collecting pots in each classroom, children can come to school in non-uniform that day, preferably wearing something spotty. Face paint can also be worn.

Christmas Fayre

We have been very fortunate to be able to book Santa again at this very busy time of year to come to our Christmas Fayre on Friday 7th December. Other attractions arranged by our new Parents and Friends team include a bouncy castle, face painting, games, refreshments and a tombola. Come along and enjoy the fun!

Parents and Friends Christmas Pantomine

We are very grateful to the Parents and Friends Association for arranging a pantomime company to come into school on Friday 29th November in the morning. I am sure the children will all enjoy their production of ‘Aladdin’

School Website

We have a new SPTA school website. Please take a look at it at www.hatfieldwoodhouse.org.uk. Copies of any letters sent home will be put onto the website which will be developed further with photos of children’s work and activities soon.

New cook

Our new school cook, Kirsty Holgate started a few weeks ago and her meals have had a positive impact on the number of children having school dinners. Kirsty has introduced the ‘Good as Gold Table’ which rewards the table with the best table manners and behaviour each lunch-time. We are hoping to invite parents into school with the children over the next few weeks.

Packed Lunch of the term

We are encouraging those children not having school dinners to bring healthy packed lunches to school. Research shows that children who have large quantities of salty snacks and sugary snacks at lunch-time do not demonstrate the best learning behaviour in the afternoons.

Staff leaving

We are sad to say goodbye to Mrs Booth on Friday 16th October when she leaves us for a job at Armthorpe Tranmooor Primary School. We wish her all the best in her new role.

Later on in the term Miss Richards will also be leaving. Miss Richards has a new job from January at a school closer to her home in Pontefract. Again we wish her well in the next step of her career.

Both jobs will be advertised on the Doncaster jobs website and the SPTA website.

Sponsored Walk

A big thank-you for the generosity you have shown in giving to the school through our sponsored walk this term.

£891.00 has now been raised.

£600.00 of this will go towards a new piece of equipment for the Trim Trail. The School Council will consult with the children in each class to choose the equipment

£291.00 of the sponsored walk money will be donated to the Ben Parkinson charity ‘Help the Heroes’

Selling the produce at the end of the KS2 Harvest Festival raised £100.

I hope we share an enjoyable and prosperous remainder to 2012!

Yours sincerely

Mrs H Acton
